Technical Requirements

Everything you need to know about the technical foundation for our budgeting education programs

Setting You Up for Success

Our programs are designed to work with the technology you already have. We believe financial education shouldn't require expensive equipment or complicated setups.

"I've seen too many people give up on financial learning because they thought they needed fancy software or powerful computers. That's exactly what we wanted to change here."

Computer & Device Requirements

  • Any computer or laptop manufactured within the last 8 years will work perfectly fine. We're talking about basic web browsing capability here.
  • 4GB RAM minimum - though honestly, if you can browse websites without constant freezing, you're already good to go.
  • Tablet or smartphone as backup device. Sometimes it's nice to quickly check something during a break or while commuting.
  • Dual monitor setup can be helpful for keeping notes open while following exercises, but definitely not required.

Internet & Connectivity

  • Stable internet connection - nothing fancy needed. If you can stream a YouTube video without buffering every few seconds, you're set.
  • 5 Mbps download speed for smooth video content. Most home internet plans easily exceed this.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi or ethernet connection during live sessions to avoid frustrating dropouts during important discussions.

Software & Applications

  • Updated web browser - Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. If you updated it sometime in 2024, you're probably fine.
  • Spreadsheet software - Google Sheets (free) works great, or Excel if you have it. We'll teach you everything you need to know.
  • PDF reader for course materials. Most devices come with one built-in these days.
  • Note-taking app - could be as simple as your phone's notes app or something like Notion if you're feeling ambitious.

What Our Learning Environment Looks Like

  • Clean, distraction-free interface that works on any screen size
  • Interactive budget calculators that run directly in your browser
  • Video content optimized for various internet speeds
  • Mobile-friendly design for learning on the go
  • Downloadable resources that work offline
  • Simple navigation that doesn't require technical expertise

Real Talk from Our Team

What our instructors actually think about technology and learning

Last month, I had a student join our program using a 2018 laptop that she was convinced was "too old." By the end of the course, she was creating detailed budget spreadsheets faster than some of our tech-savvy participants. The tools don't make the budgeter.

We deliberately kept everything browser-based because downloading and installing software can be intimidating. Plus, when you access your budget tools from anywhere - your work computer, home laptop, or even your phone - you're more likely to actually use them consistently.
